Do you think you can’t really enjoy Christmas in an Asian country like Japan? That’s not true. Hakodate city in Hokkaido has a romantic festival where you can enjoy fireworks and beautiful night views – Hakodate Christmas Fantasy. You have a chance to enjoy the illumination for whole December. It will become an unforgettable Christmas you have ever imagined!

How to Enjoy “Christmas Fantasy” in Hakodate

Hakodate was the place that received the first Christmas trees in Japan. Thus, during the Christmas Fantasy festival you will see many trees around every corner. The most remarkable thing is, the biggest Christams tree on the water surface at the bay area. It comes from Halifax, Canada every year and is over 20 meters high. Halifax is the sister city of Hakodate. In 2015, it was decorated with 150,000 LED lights. Every year in December at 6 p.m. you can see the fireworks, and it is the highlight of the festival. However in 2018 there will be over 50000 lights which is still a lot.

You can take a walk to other part of the city to enjoy the views. For example, Hakodate mountain ropeway and Goyoukaku tower are the best to see the whole city. It is so romantic and the most beautiful illumination you can imagine. Besides, the view from Hakodate mountain is considered to be the best view in the city in Japan.
