Kururi castle festival in Chiba: Japanese art performance and entertainment

I will introduce a big festival called Kururi castle festival in Chiba! It is so attractive and makes us excited. Please read about this festival on this article.

Kururi castle exists as a fortress which is in Kanto. Later, lord of this castle had changed from Satomi to Tsutiya to Kuroda. And repaired this castle into a modern castle which remaining as modern ruined castle by order of Kuroda Naozumi
After Kimifusa town became Kimitsu city, the castle tower was renovated on honmaru mark as a tourism symbol symbol in 1979.

When this festival is held?:

In the last of October every year, it takes place performance of sword-dance and Kyudo, which is Japanese art of archery, and performance of shigin and more entertainment including Kanto sound drum, a long Japanese zither, tea ceremony, and sword fight that is kind of Japanese traditional culture at Kururi shopping street and forest experience interchange center that is the main site of this festival. Long line of warriors in armor, which is handmade, walk in a parade at castle town that is a main event and makes audience overwhelmed.

In this picture, as you can see, a boy is wearing armor. It kind of try armor on. Some men help to wear the armor. If you are interested in appearance of generals, why don’t you try on the armor in this event!

Many people who dressed up as samurai walks around Kururi town that is called warrior magistrate. You also enjoy seeing a heroic picture scroll.

Forming long warrior line including local elementary school and junior high school students and a prefectural high school named Kimitsu Aoba students.
After, they are in good spirits by the formal ceremony to start at forest experience interchange center under Kururi castle, and then march about 4 kilometers to City rural environment improvement center through JR Kururi station.

Traffic Access:

It takes about 35 minutes to go to this castle from Kururi station JR Kururi line.
It takes about 45 minutes to go to this castle from Tateyama car Kisarazunorth IC by car.

What is Kururi town like?

Kururi is inland of Kimitsu city of Chiba. Kururi exists in the middle of Obitsu river which is in the middle of Boso Peninsula. Kururi is known as castle town with domain of Kururi in Edo era and nowadays Kururi is also known for a country of famous spring. That has been chosen as one of the Select Best Waters of Japan in Heisei by the Ministry of the Environment in June of 2008.

What tourist spots are there in Kimitsu city?:

Noumizo waterfall

It has been popular spot in Kimitsu city. You can drop by this waterfall before going to the Kamogawa area. And this waterfall is called “waterfall of Studio Ghibli”. Because it looks like mysterious and like its waterfall came straight out of a Ghibli movie. You can see a beautiful cave. Why don’t you take a picture of it?

Lake Kameyama

The biggest lake formed by a dam made by Kameyama dam in Chiba, it forms complicated typical reservoir. Its lake is a famous place of red and yellow leaves, but not so crowded except in high season. Around the lake, you can enjoy hiking, cycling, and riding boat because the promenade is equipped fully with them. If you come in winter, you may feel cold. So, please wear warm clothes when you come in winter. I recommend you see discharge water from the dam. However, the day of discharge water is limited, so please check it out the day in advance.

What is Chiba like?:

Chiba is one of prefectures of Kanto region. Chiba faces the Pacific Ocean. You may get obsessed with charm of nature, good tasting local products and many attractive tourists spot in Chiba! You can enjoy fruits picking in Chiba! Of course, you can enjoy taking a hot spring bath in Chiba. I want to recommend you to go Kamogawa area.
